The escalation of domestic violence to a lethal level follows an identifiable pattern with identifiable indicators. This training will provide attendees with an understanding of domestic violence dynamics, the ability to identify domestic violence cases that are high risk for homicide and equip them with strategies they can incorporate into their work to reduce risk of homicide, increase victim safety and achieve better case outcomes.

Erin Becker

Coordinator, High-Risk Domestic Violence Court
Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court

Erin Becker is the Coordinator of the High-Risk Domestic Violence Court in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. She has served in this capacity since the inception of the docket in 2020 and works directly for the specialty court judge, managing the operations of the docket and leading the multi-disciplinary team in the handling of high-risk, felony-level domestic violence cases. Erin obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at Cleveland State University in 2009. That same year, she joined the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court as a probation officer. She assisted Cuyahoga County Adult Probation Department management in building the criminal non-support caseload, which aimed to divert non-support offenders from prison. She then worked as a domestic violence probation officer for eight years, supervising felony-level domestic violence cases. She served on the Cuyahoga County Domestic Violence High Risk Team, working as a liaison between the Cuyahoga County Adult Probation Department and the multi-agency team. Erin is a committee member of the Cuyahoga County Domestic Violence Prevention Task Force and sits on several of its subcommittees, including the No Contact and Protection Order Committee, Strangulation Committee and Firearm Relinquishment Committee. She is a member of the Cuyahoga County Domestic Violence Fatality Review Committee. Trainings and presentations Erin has facilitated or co-facilitated include Intimate Partner Violence and Substance Abuse at the 2017 Cuyahoga County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Roads to Recovery Conference. In 2022, Erin co-facilitated Managing High Risk Domestic Violence Cases for The Supreme Court of Ohio Judicial College. In 2022 and 2024, she trained Cuyahoga County Mental Health Court and Veterans Treatment Court Teams in Supervising Domestic Violence Offenders. In 2023, Erin presented Incorporating Risk into your Domestic Violence Response at the Ohio Attorney General Conference, Two Days in May. Also in 2023, she co-presented Brain Injury, Strangulation in the State of Ohio and Protecting Victims at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Office of Victims Services 2023 Annual Combined Training. Erin and the Cuyahoga County High-Risk Domestic Violence Court Team conducted a panel presentation of their program at the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention’s Advance Course on Strangulation Prevention in 2023 and 2024. In 2024, she co-facilitated Understanding Domestic Violence for Professionals to licensed mental health professionals of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court TASC Department. Erin is a co-founder of the Edna House for Women, a residential program for women recovering from alcohol and drug addiction. Since its inception in 2004, she has served in a variety of roles there including director and currently serves as the chairperson of the board of directors.
